Blackened Fish

Use this blackening seasoning on anything at all! Fish, chicken, shrimp, tofu – you name it! It looks ultra impressive to serve blackened cod, but really the whole shebang will take you 10 mins or less.

The easiest and most delicious summer dinner. Try this in tacos, a fish sandwich, a bowl, over salad or paired with grits!

Time

  • Prep: 2 minutes
  • Cook: 8 minutes
  • Total: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1lb flaky white fish – try cod/ mahi mahi/ tilapia/ flounder
  • Blackening seasoning:
  • 1 TB smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper – just a few cranks
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp cumin – we are adding this to make it Mexican – if you are making a more traditional Cajun blackened dish then leave this out.
  • Olive oil

Recipe

  1. Preheat your broiler to high.
  2. Combine all the spices in a bowl.
  3. Rinse and pat your fish dry. Rub all over with olive oil.
  4. Liberally season the fish with your blackening seasoning.
  5. Broil for 6-9 minutes on a shelf about 6 inches away from the top. Fish will be ready when it flakes easily.
